What if America Was a Christian Nation?
Maybe I can get behind this idea after all!

I’ve seen many interviews with MAGA folk who say the country should be based on Christian values, we see this playing out in legislation already with states like Louisiana forcing public schools to put the Ten Commandments in every classroom, and states like Oklahoma forcing the Bible to be taught in schools.
I’ve seen many of my liberal and progressive friends and family freaking out over the idea of the U.S. becoming a theocracy, focused only on Christian values, and it does seem to be shaping up to some form of Handmaid’s Tale-type scenario if Trump gets a second term.
But what if the country really did embrace Christian values? By that, I mean values that Jesus taught, not the doctrine spread by the church that developed over the ages since his crucifixion.

Jesus’ lesson here teaches that we should do everything we can to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and take care of the stranger, the sick, and even the prisoner.
So shouldn’t we as a society strive towards the goals of taking care of the homeless, the sick, and the immigrant seeking refuge and doing some major prison reform?
This would call for drastic programs to expand healthcare, housing, and food programs for all of the most vulnerable, but really for everyone in the country.
For some reason Jesus doesn’t make any mention of forcing these people to meet certain guidelines in an attempt to exclude them from it, he says if they need it and we’re capable of providing it then we do so.
Jesus also didn’t say that industries should be propped up off of people’s illness, or laws made to maximize those who are incarcerated to be used for slave labor. He also left off that shareholders should be making incredible profits off of illness and treatments or that there should be selective enforcement of laws against minorities and the poor to fill the prisons.
These current policies and practices essentially make treatments only available to the wealthy, and the laws only apply to those who can’t afford to pay their way out of it.
How did Jesus feel about the wealthy, or profiteering in general?
