Could The U.S. “Balkanize”?
Sure it sounds like fiction, like some dystopian Netflix special narrated by Morgan Freeman.
“The year is 2043. The United States of America, once the most powerful empire on Earth, no longer exists.”
It’s really not that far-fetched though; it may not even be a bad idea.
If we’re being honest, this country hasn’t exactly been united in a long time: Red vs. Blue, urban vs. rural, North vs. South (again). It’s not just political differences anymore; it’s alternate realities. It’s two completely incompatible worldviews screaming at each other through Fox News and MSNBC, each accusing the other of destroying the country, while they’re both kind of right.
I don’t think the question is if the U.S. could break up, but when, and how ugly it’ll be.
