“We Care About Christians” Sometimes…

On one hand, the U.S. is screaming from its bully pulpit about “Christians being killed in Nigeria”, and promising to cut off “aid” and even launch military action if the Nigerian government doesn’t “protect” them. On the other hand, there is what happens in Gaza: Christian and Muslim Palestinians alike endure bombardment, displacement, murder, but when was the U.S. threatening to go “guns-a-blazing” over that? Hell, 90% of politicians in the U.S. will barely even mention it, let alone condemn it.
Donald Trump announced recently that Nigeria would be designated a “country of particular concern” over religious freedom violations. He warned that unless the Nigerian government cracked down on the killing of Christians, the U.S. would immediately stop all aid and possibly deploy the military to “wipe out the Islamic terrorists” responsible.
Nigeria’s violent landscape is far more complex than Christian victims vs Islamist aggressors: analysts point out that the majority of victims of insurgencies in the northeast are Muslims, and the violence is deeply rooted in ethnicity, land and resource disputes, climate stress, not simple Christian-versus-Muslim persecution, the narrative that Western media wants us all to believe.
