Trump, Harbinger of Peace?
Could something have been done sooner?
Trump, Harbinger of Peace?
Could something have been done sooner?

Let me start by saying I’ve never voted for Trump, or for a Republican for that matter. I once voted third party only because I felt the DNC had robbed Bernie… Now with that disclaimer out of the way, I’ll say when I voted for Biden in 2020 I did have reservations because I honestly thought he’d be more likely to get us into war than Trump would.
I based this assumption on the fact that Trump didn’t start any new international conflicts while in office, something that hadn’t happened since Carter.
“They want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes and make everything else stay happy. If it were up to them, they’d be at war all of the time.”-Donald Trump-News conference September 7, 2020
I also became disillusioned with the fantasy that MSNBC or CNN are the “good guys” seeing as how they had given more coverage to party loyalist candidates polling in the single digits than they were Bernie.
These same news stations are the ones who blasted Trump for talking trash about Kim Jon Un, claiming he was about to get North Korea to nuke South Korea then trashed Trump for going and meeting with him…
“I would rather take a political risk in pursuit of peace than to risk peace in pursuit of politics.”-Donald Trump-2018 Conference with Russian President Putin
In a recent poll that Trump put up on his “Truth Social” he posted a video where Jeffrey Sachs makes the point that Netanyahu has repeatedly dragged the U.S. into war in the Middle East, and refers to him as a “deep, dark son of a b*tch.”
Trump then also shared a poll on December 13th posing the question “What is the biggest threat by far to freedom in America?”
The options on the poll were “Russia, Radical Islam, or Other-Comment Below.” The poll ended up with 5% saying Russia, 27% saying Radical Islam and 67% answering other with the overwhelming majority of the comments saying “Israel”.
This was with 145,719 answers coming from his followers, who considering this is “Truth Social” the majority obviously are staunch MAGA folk.
Right before this, he had posted another poll asking the question “Who is the worst enemy to America?” with the options being Russia, China, Iran, or Other-Comment Below.
Russia got 6%, China got 27%, Iran 12% and other got 55%…and you guessed it, the overwhelming majority of answers again were “Israel”.
This poll actually had 441,860 as the final result.
What’s interesting about this is that Trump obviously runs his own account, and seems to actually care what his fan base thinks about him. His thin-skinnedness actually is a benefit in this way.
Do I think Trump is some great advocate of peace? No. But I do think he cares what people think about him, and what his legacy may be, and he knows that war is not something that the populace of the country wants. I also know that his lack of decorum makes him more likely to accidently tell the truth when he’s ranting about his enemies, such as establishment Democrats or even other Republicans.
I bring all of this up due to the recent ceasefire that was reached between Hamas and Israel.
The Democrats are trying to take credit for this deal but it happened immediately after Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff met with Netanyahu, nine days before Trump takes office.
Evidently, Netanyahu has now agreed to the ceasefire deal that was presented by Hamas back on October 9th, 2024…so if this deal has been on the table this entire time why hasn’t he taken it before? They’ve now agreed to leave the Gaza Strip and release Palestinian hostages for Israeli ones…
The only scenario that makes sense is that Trump’s team told them if they didn’t reach a ceasefire immediately they’d be ripped off the American teat, having their sweet cash and weapons flow stopped and leaving them at the mercy of their neighbors who, as you can image, aren’t big fans of theirs.
I’m sure this was all more than likely a PR move by Trump, but in the end it brought about real material changes for all of the suffering Gazans. Something the Democrats have had eighteen months to do and have instead continued to funnel money and arms to the occupying genocidal Israeli regime.
Israel wasn’t able to destroy the resistance, they didn’t get their hostages released until they were willing to do a swap for Palestinian hostages, Israel is now having to leave Gaza rather than occupying it, and the world is more aware than ever of the plight of the Palestinian people.
A recent poll showed that the top reason voters who previously voted for Biden choosing not to vote for Kamala was her unending support for Israel.
All of this just goes to show us that Democrats could’ve chosen to change course and likely won the 2024 election but chose not to.
They could’ve stopped the carnage in Palestine but chose not to.
Let’s never forget that, and hold Democrats accountable to do better in the future, whether that be through voting or other means.
In the end, we should accept a win for the Palestinian people even when it doesn’t come from our preferred team.
