We all grew up with the image of Hitler as the ultimate evil and the Holocaust as the definitive symbol of human suffering, and make no mistake: what happened to European Jews under Nazi rule was horrific, industrialized genocide of the worst kind. But have you ever stopped to wonder why we’re taught so much about that one chapter, while other atrocities, equally brutal and, in some cases, even larger in scale, barely make it into the margins of a history textbook?
