The Great Deceiver
The Father of Lies
The Great Deceiver
The Father of Lies

Anyone who has read previous pieces of mine knows I like to compare and contrast what I was taught growing up in Christianity with what the Bible actually says. I’ve found over time a staggering amount of “errors”, between the doctrine and what actually exists in the “good book”. I put quotes about the word error because I’m not sure if that even is the correct term to use since there’s no way a lot of this wasn’t intentionally skewed.
Growing up Christian we’re taught that the Devil, Satan, Lucifer, the serpent, Morning Star, etc. is the “Father of Lies”. The first instance that brought me to question this title was the story of the serpent in the Garden of Eden, and how if we truly look at what the serpent said to Eve, it didn’t lie once.

Yahweh goes on to then curse the serpent and remove its legs, as well as to curse Eve to make her and all future women to have to suffer through childbirth. It’s important here to keep in mind that none of the curses brought about were directly from eating the fruit, they were punishments for disobeying.
Then in a subsequent verse, we even see that what the serpent told Eve was in fact true, confirmed by God himself.

It’s also important to note that by these accounts man had no knowledge of good or evil prior to eating the fruit, so even the act of disobeying was done in a very naive state.
This is really just the tip of the iceberg though, I went on a search after realizing this and having my interest piqued to see if I could find other instances where the “devil” perhaps does blatantly lie to anyone.
I couldn’t find one single instance.
Why is it that we’re told that the “devil” is the “father of lies” and a “trickster” when in reality there isn’t a single instance in the entire book where he lies to anyone?
After all, we’re told that lying is a sin, and comes from the “devil”.
Leviticus 19:11
Exodus 20:16
Proverbs 12:22
Proverbs 14:5
Proverbs 19:5
Proverbs 19:9
Proverbs 12:19
So obviously we should see the great evil in the Bible using lies constantly, and the great good (God) being completely trustworthy, but as it turns out that isn’t the case.
