The U.S. has blurred the lines between soldier, cop, and contractor so completely that the only real distinction left is who signs their paychecks.
Over the past few years, the privatization of both police and military functions in the United States has gone from a paranoid dystopian talking point to a line item on the federal budget.
They don’t always slap a “Privatization” label on it (that word still makes voters uneasy), but the structure says it all. The country now runs on a for-profit security state, one that answers not to the Constitution, but to contract law.
