Scientists Are Now Talking to People in Their Dreams
What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

In case reality wasn’t already weird enough, scientists have now figured out how to have real-time conversations with people inside their dreams. This actually happened, and peer-reviewed journals are backing it up.
Researchers in the U.S., France, Germany, and the Netherlands have managed to “talk” to lucid dreamers while they were still asleep. These dreamers were able to hear a word and respond by repeating the word in their dream, this response was then electronically sent to another lucid dreamer who was able to repeat the word upon waking. In addition to this, the dreamers were able to hear questions and respond with eye movements or muscle twitches while dreaming.
This wasn’t a situation like a therapist asking you to interpret your subconscious after the fact; this was an instance of direct communication between waking scientists and unconscious minds, in real time. The dreamers answered math problems, responded to yes/no questions, and even followed instructions.
We’ve officially entered the age of dream-hacking.
Naturally, the mainstream coverage was all starry-eyed: “Wow! Look how much we’re learning about the brain!” Meanwhile, nobody seemed to ask the obvious question, “Who exactly is going to be using this tech once it leaves the lab?”
If you think this is just about sleep research, I envy your naivety.
