How He Began the Downfall Of America
Ronald Reagan is often remembered as the sunny Gipper, the folksy grandfather who “restored American pride” with a grin and a well-timed joke.
To this day Evangelicals, they worship him like some kind of Republican Jesus, conveniently ignoring the small details, like the fact that he gutted the working class, sold drugs in Black neighborhoods, and racked up a national debt that’s now strangling their own kids’ futures. But none of that matters because he threw them a few culture-war bones, mouthed some lines about “family values,” and let them feel like America was still a Christian nation. They got the warm fuzzies, corporations got the tax cuts, the CIA got its death squads, and the rest of us got screwed.
Behind that Hollywood smile was the butcher’s knife. If you want to trace back the rot that’s hollowed out America, the death of unions, the tidal wave of neoliberal regime change, the rise of the billionaire oligarchy, the migrant crises, and the ballooning national debt, you don’t need to look any further than Saint Ronnie himself.
The man didn’t just destroy the Soviet Union. He destroyed America, too…it’s just taken longer.
