We’re told wages are the key to freedom.
Work hard, get raises, buy nice things, and watch your life steadily improve. The catch is no matter how much you make, it never really matters. You could double your paycheck tomorrow and still find yourself treading water.
The reason that’s possible is that the people at the top don’t just own the company that pays you, they own the apartment complex you live in, the grocery chain you shop at, the insurance plan you’re trapped in, and the gas station on your corner.
They’ll just raise prices to take back whatever they gave you.
A raise is nothing more than an illusion of progress inside a system where ownership is already decided.
