Why Can’t America Do The Same?
Mexico did something the United States can’t even imagine back in 2018: they told the political establishment to f*ck off.
After decades of getting strangled by the same recycled neoliberal hacks in different party uniforms, Mexicans finally snapped. They didn’t just “vote for change” the way Americans do every four years (picking between the guy who serves Goldman Sachs steak or the guy who serves Goldman Sachs shrimp).
Mexico elected Andrés Manuel López Obrador, AMLO, and his party MORENA. He wiped the floor with the PRI, the PAN, and the PRD, the three-headed neoliberal “centrist” hydra that had ruled Mexico for decades.
AMLO won 53% of the vote, carried 31 of 32 states, and took majorities in both houses of Congress.
It was more of an exorcism than an election.
