There’s a strange new religion that I have noticed among the so-called “progressive” corners of the “left” in U.S. politics. Its central doctrine seems to be that humanity is the problem. It’s core tenets seem to be that no one should have children, enjoy anything, don’t use plastic. don’t breathe too hard, but most importantly feel guilty for existing as a human.

I’ve run into this worldview countless times, both here on this platform and across social media, and even my own friends and family.

Liberals who think the most moral thing you can do for the planet is… disappear. They don’t call it nihilism, of course. They’ll say it’s “eco-consciousness,” or “responsible family planning.”

But it stems from a kind of self-loathing conveyed in the language of virtue.

Posts about how “humans are a virus” or how “it’s selfish to have kids in a dying world.”

They act as if bringing life into existence is the same as setting the rainforest on fire, it’s all portrayed as being very pious.

The movie Children of Men portrayed just how depressing this sort of world would be though, without the future of humanity.
