The official Western story goes like this: Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were traitors. Spies. Enemies of the state. They “stole” America’s nuclear secrets and handed them over to the Soviets, undermining national security and putting the world at risk.

For that, they were executed in the electric chair in 1953, in one of the most infamous trials of the 20th century.

But by doing what they did, Julius and Ethel may have saved the world.
