Now what?
So someone was finally able to get Biden to step aside for another candidate, and if we assume that won’t be Jimmy Carter finally coming out for his second term we can assume it’ll be someone younger and more mentally capable of performing the job.
I guess all that media gaslighting was for nothing, trying to convince us that we were all just ageists or secretly MAGA supporters. I’m sure the talking heads will all be told to change their tune and act like they knew this was coming all along like they always do.
The next question is who will be the candidate to take his place? He endorsed Kamala Harris, but since the primaries are already over, and seeing as how this is an unprecedented event, having a sitting president step down this late in the game for his second term…it falls to who truly has held all the cards this whole time, the DNC.
Kamala Harris is likely the strongest candidate the DNC will allow. We know Bernie Sanders won’t be the option, since his policies go too far against what the establishment wants, and they’ve sabotaged him twice already in 2016 and 2020. Gavin Newsom would get blasted by Trump over his lockdowns and hypocrisy being seen at restaurants and whatnot during those same lockdowns.
Kamala does have her own dirt too though, withholding evidence against death row inmates that could’ve helped their case, although she’s had a lot of time to build a defense for that claim, and has stated it wasn’t as clear cut as the allegation makes it out to be.
While I would prefer someone with much more progressive stances towards labor, prison reform, drug reform, healthcare reform, education reform, and income inequality. She is probably our best hope for the candidates they’ll allow.
Ultimately having a younger female woman of color run against an old rich white guy with a history of misogynistic and racist statements will be a good test to see where the true colors of the country fall concerning these particular social issues.
At least we have a chance to be free from the gerontocracy!
