Not even a week into the latest ceasefire, and Israel is already doing what Israel does best, breaking its own promises while pretending it’s the victim.

The supposed truce that was meant to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza? Blocked. The bombing that was supposed to stop? Back on schedule. The people who were supposed to finally get food and medicine? Starving and bleeding, as usual.

The official excuse this time is that Hamas, they claim, hasn’t returned all of the bodies of the dead hostages. You know, the same hostages who were killed during Israel’s own bombing campaigns. It’s hard to “return” people who’ve been blown into fragments by U.S.-made bombs.

Hamas already stated that many of those bodies were either obliterated by Israeli airstrikes or buried under the ruins of entire neighborhoods. But Israel, ever the moral authority, insists on punishing 2 million people for not handing over what no longer physically exists.

In the logic of Zionist exceptionalism, if Hamas can’t resurrect the dead, that means the ceasefire’s off.

The “ceasefire” has always been Israel’s PR word for reload. Every time one’s announced, it’s just a brief intermission. They pause, issue a few talking points about “restraint,” and then return to business as usual: bombing hospitals, blocking aid convoys, and shooting people seeking food while American politicians nod solemnly about “Israel’s right to defend itself.”

Right now, Israel blocking humanitarian aid trucks at the border while people inside the Strip are literally dying of hunger. The supposed “peace period” was meant to allow food, water, and medical supplies in. Instead, Israel’s military is turning away shipments and shelling the very areas where civilians gather to receive aid.

But don’t worry, the IDF says they’re “investigating.”
