How absurd is it that right now, while Israel is busy trying to light the entire Middle East on fire, they’ve decided to start bombing Tehran, home to the second-largest Jewish population in the Middle East? Yes, many westerners may not be aware that Iran, the country we’re constantly told is the existential threat to Jews everywhere, actually has tens of thousands of Jews living in it, and many of them are in the capital city, currently under Israeli assault.
It doesn’t fit the Western narrative.
Although the population of Jews in Iran has seen a decline since the 1979 Islamic revolution, it still contains a Jewish population estimated to be between 8,000 to 10,000, with most of them residing in Tehran. In Tehran, you can find more than a dozen functioning synagogues, several kosher butchers, Jewish schools, and even a Jewish member of parliament.
Jews have lived in this region, what is currently modern-day Iran, for over 2,500 years. Many chose to stay after the revolution, and many have made it clear they are Iranian first, Jewish second, and not Zionist at all.
The truth that no mainstream commentator wants to say out loud is that Zionism isn’t about protecting Jews. It’s only about protecting the state of Israel. If you’re Jewish and not in Israel, or worse, if you’re Jewish and critical of Israel, you don’t count, you’re inconvenient, disposable.
The Israeli government has shown over and over again that it is completely willing to sacrifice Jews who don’t toe the political line. It’s not about your ethnicity, and it’s sure not about your religion; it’s about their power and territory.
If that means they may need to flatten a city with synagogues, thousands of Jewish families, and centuries of history? So be it.
Israeli bombs have never come with a moral compass. They flatten hospitals, schools, and press offices. Their bombs have been used to indiscriminately kill Christians, Muslims, and Jews, and every time we see the same response: complete silence from the U.S. and gaslighting from the Israeli press.
