I’ve had a number of Christians come after me for some of my other articles about homosexuality and the Bible. They accuse me of twisting the scriptures for my own “agenda”, and ignore any of the evidence I put forward about gay couples in the Bible or the fact that the church twisted the original texts for their agenda.

I guess these sorts of people often are more led by their beliefs than facts or evidence presented before them, so it’s basically par for the course.

In church, we’re taught that God is perfect and cannot make mistakes, as well as that he “loves all his children”, although many from the Old Testament would beg to differ, or at least question who his “children” are that he’s referring to.

So this gives us four possible conclusions to discuss with these bigoted Christians.

  1. God exists, is perfect, and everything he made is perfect including people of the LBGTQ+ community. In which case no one should use scripture to try to condemn them, any more than you should try to condemn someone for their race. So kindly STFU.
  2. God doesn’t exist, in which case none of this debate matters, so STFU.
  3. God does exist and made all of reality but also isn’t perfect and made mistakes, in which case he decided to punish some of them for the way he made them. This makes him not a just or fair god, in which case he doesn’t deserve worship, and you should kindly STFU.
  4. God made everything, is “perfect” but cruel, and just decided to make some people in a way that he would have an excuse to punish them for eternity, in which case he doesn’t deserve worship…so STFU.

In the Christian church, we’re taught that God is perfect and loves all of his children, but we also hear hateful messages put toward people of the queer community by followers of this faith all of the time.

For some reason, they love to bring up this particular part of the Bible, yet ignore basically every single other “law” from this section of the Old Testament, and ignore almost all of the teachings of Christ in the New Testament.

It’s almost as if they don’t actually care what the message of the Bible is, just what they can use to feel self-righteous, and superior over others.

I’ve pointed out in a previous article that I’ll link at the bottom that I actually think each of the main verses used against queer folk is badly translated, and twisted for various reasons to be used as a resource to spread hate. But I also want Christians who believe these hateful messages to use this as a thought exercise…because which of the above do you believe about your God?

If God is omnipotent and omniscient then he knows what he has created, and knows the eventual outcome. Do you really believe that he created people just to send them to hell? People don’t choose to be gay any more than they choose their race or birthplace.
