In the past, we, as a nation, could throw up nuclear plants the way Starbucks throws up franchises. Break ground, and just five years later half a million homes plugged in.
We were cranking out three reactors a year. Steel, concrete, ower, actual, tangible progress.
Then suddenly it was gone.
Not because nuclear power failed, not because reactors were melting through the Earth’s crust like some sci-fi movies, not because Pennsylvania turned into Fallout.
America killed nuclear power in the tried and true American way, through panic, paperwork, and politics.
