As I’ve mentioned in other articles I was raised in the Southern U.S., and the predominant flavor of Christianity there is Evangelical, KJV only, literalism. So I like to look at, and critique, the Bible through the lens that all of those who still believe in this severely deranged version of Christianity view it through.

I noticed a trend of the God of the Old Testament repeatedly overreacting to situations, carrying out swift harsh punishments well beyond what any of us would see as a just punishment for the crime. Often this is done to his most devout followers, who had a momentary slip of judgment and were harshly dealt with.

Of course, I always have commenters who say this is all allegory, or ingrained with larger spiritual truths, but that also feels like a bit of a cop-out answer, especially the latter one when the commenter doesn’t bother to point out what that “truth” is, but just says I need to dedicate my life to living in some monastery so I can finally decipher it….yeah I’ll jump right on that.

Let’s dive in then shall we?
