Before my son was born me and my wife began discussing whether we would get him circumcised. After all every male in our family had been, seeing that we had both grown up in Christian households and that it is a common practice in the U.S.A.
At first, without giving it much thought I just assumed it was something we would do, but having left the church I had begun questioning everything that I had been taught or taken as a tradition or “given”. I wondered why this practice was even done, and upon looking deeper into it the reasons kept falling short.
Why do Christians practice circumcision? This basically goes back to the Jewish belief in doing it as a “covenant between man and God”. For some reason, God evidently created man with a foreskin just so he could watch him cut it off and give it back to God as some sort of offering. God did have a major hankering for foreskins in the Old Testament, as did certain kings, I’m guessing maybe it was some sort of currency.
Sure, that makes perfect fucking sense… but does the Bible say that Christians need to keep doing this practice? Nope, it says the exact opposite, but given that many Christians are either illiterate or just don’t allow themselves to use their brains to process complex thoughts, they somehow miss that the New Testament says that there is no point in keeping up this “covenant” unless they plan to keep all the other old law rules.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Ok, so as Christians, the Bible says we’re dumbasses for continuing to chop off dick skins in an attempt to please God, so beyond us not having any religious requirements to do this, why do we continue to do it?
Well in the U.S. this goes back to the 1800s purity culture. People in that period saw masturbation as a form of sexual deviance, and the doctors of the time based all their recommendations on ignorance and this prevailing purity mindset. They recommended circumcision due to the theory that by chopping off all of those nerve endings, we now know there are 10,000–20,000 nerve endings in the foreskin, they’d inhibit boy’s and men’s sexual desire. These kooks thought that masturbating could cause a litany of mental and physical ailments, including epilepsy, intellectual decline, and insanity.
In the 1900s Dr. John Harvey Kellogg was a huge proponent of circumcision, and without anesthesia, because he felt the huge amount of pain associated with chopping through all of those nerve endings would sufficiently scar the child away from ever wanting to have sex.
As the 1900s progressed and this wave of religious anti-sex nonsense began to dissipate, or at least not be consumed wholesale by the public, the medical community started to try to make medical claims to justify the continued practice of genital mutilation.
They began to claim that it would reduce urinary tract infections and the transmission of certain sexually transmitted diseases. But continued looks at this data have shown that the same amount of prevention can be acquired by using this magical substance called soap, and an invention called a condom.
In fact, the foreskin produces anti-microbial substances and lubricant, and imagine this…is there for a reason. In fact, the head of the dick hardens over the years and can cause more irritation to a sexual partner without the foreskin‘s presence.
In the case of folk who are still bound to the blood god, some orthodox Jews have the mohel or baby mutilator, perform the circumcision and then fellate the infant’s bloody dick…Yes, that’s right, he uses his fucking mouth to suck the bloody wound he just inflicted on an infant. In a study in New York, this was found to have infected 11 infants with herpes, killing 2 of them and causing 2 to have brain damage. Thankfully Christians don’t do this that I know of.
So if it isn’t religiously necessary to appease an angry God, it’s not necessary to stop us masturbating ourselves blind, and it isn’t medically or hygienically necessary as long as we practice safe sex and use fucking soap…then why is it still done?
For profits, that’s why.

So there you have it, doctors in the U.S. still promote this based on non-sense medical studies that superseded pent-up religious self-hating anti-sex freaks, who came after quack doctors who thought you’d beat your meat until you went insane. All of that of course only originated due to some religious dudes in the desert who thought God told them to chop off their dick skins to make him happy.
But ultimately it only persisted into this day and age due to good old-fashioned capitalism profiting off of the genital mutilation of babies.
Yay, Murica! Yay, capitalism!
So no, I did not subject my son to this practice, even though my parents and in-laws both pushed us to do it. Even the doctor tried to push us into it, which makes me wonder if she was going to get some sort of kickback from the company that would eventually sell off those cells to a pharma company.
Fuck U.S. healthcare.
