Exploring Biblical instances

I’ve often heard this term, generational curse, mentioned by religious and non-religious folk. Often it’s in the context of talking about a family that has issues with alcoholism or addiction, but I’ve also heard it used in the context of domestic abuse, or even poverty.
I’ve heard it more often from people who are Christians, often praying over someone to trying to “intercede” for someone to break a generational curse.
This general concept seemed to not really make sense to me. You see as a kid I played a lot of games, board games, card games, video games, etc. So I’m used to the concept of there being a ruleset for things, and I often find myself thinking of other things like religion, laws, or policies in this way.
At one point I even was appointed one of the contract negotiators for a union that I was a part of starting in a workplace, and I found this sort of thinking to help a lot when dealing with lawyers and corporate suits.
So when it comes to the rules of Christianity the concept of a child being cursed by our omniscient omnipotent creator for something their parent did just doesn’t seem to make sense.
This got me curious about what Biblical evidence there could be to support the existence of this concept since I had met so many Christians in my life who seem to believe in it.
