Donald Trump didn’t just fall out of the sky one day and hijack a perfectly healthy democracy. He also didn’t magically brainwash 70 million people into storming the ballot box for fascism, nor did he invent corruption, cruelty, or corporate servitude in American politics.
Let’s not give him that much credit.
Trump is what happens when a decaying system finally coughs up something so grotesque, so absurd, that it becomes impossible to keep pretending things are fine. The uncomfortable truth liberals don’t want to hear is that the Democrats helped build the runway for his landing.
