Can a Christian Lose Their Salvation?
Or are you “once saved always saved”?

I’ve often thought that one of the reasons I’ve met so many terrible “Christians” in my life is due to the existence of the doctrine “once saved always saved” that so many Evangelicals believe in.
Another term used for this belief is “eternal security”, basically the belief is that once you’ve truly received Jesus as your savior then you essentially can’t “backslide” and lose the salvation you received.
For those of you unfamiliar with this doctrine you may already see some issues with it. For example, what if someone accepted Christ, was baptized, etc. at a young age but then became some sort of mass-murdering monster?
Well, then that person must not have been truly saved!
Yes, it allows a lot of wiggle room for believers in this doctrine to talk themselves out of a corner when presented with real-world examples.
Another thing it does is basically allow those people to be really terrible people most of the time, because after all they’ve already secured their “eternal security”, so why bother actually trying to be a good person?
I mean Christianity uses fear as one of its main recruitment strategies. Converts acquired using this method accept Christ because they’re afraid of Hell, not because they’ve had some huge change of heart.
So it just makes sense that you have so many who don’t even understand the religion really, it’s just a social club of people who give away ten percent of their earnings so they don’t burn for eternity. They have no interest in actually helping people or being good people.
