Would-Be Dictator to Prisoner

Jair Bolsonaro always wanted to be Brazil’s Trump.
For years, he strutted around like a bargain-bin strongman, spewing nationalism, promising to “save” Brazil from the left, and cozying up to the military.
Now he’s staring down 27 years in prison after Brazil’s Supreme Court convicted him for doing exactly what everyone suspected he’d try: plotting to assassinate Lula, the guy who beat him, along with the Vice President and a Supreme Court Justice.
The country’s highest court found him guilty, 4–1. He’s banned from office until 2030 and currently stuck under house arrest.
